Search Engine Strategies are Evolving

Opinions on search engine optimization strategy are shifting again.

A brief history of strategies:

  1. Content is King
  2. Content is King and you have to optimize for Search Engines
  3. You have to change your content it all the time to stay ahead of the competition (no!)
  4. You have to create lots of content (only if it is good, original content)
  5. Blog several times a week (only if you really have something to write about, original content)
  6. Content is important, optimize for humans AND search engines (Yes)
  7. Use social media to promote your content. (not really)
  8. Use social media to interact and education people. (Yes)

Now for some clarity (no majic, no gimmicks, no tricks)

How to make sure your content is KING.

  1. Most important: Create good, original content that is accurate and sincere.
  2. Include images where you can.
  3. Be sure your content has appropriate titles and tags (Empowered Marketing does this for you when you submit content to us)
  4. Leverage your content with Social Media (choose appropriate social media). Not promotion – education, training, news, etc.)
  5. Interact with those sharing and talking about your content.
  6. Use calls to action everywhere (content, print media, social media, newsletters).
  7. When news is really NEWS, promote it through press releases and other outlets.
    One really good way to get into the news is to find a reporter who writes about the specific topic your news relates to. Contact the reporter and tell them you have something new in their area of expertise and ask them if they’d like to interview you.
